Hi
I have the same problem with an old nvidia video card. The DVD & USB only want start at 800x600... and i have a 1900x600 tft display.
The new xorg system recognizes the hardware on the fly and if this system cannot recognize the monitor defaults to 800x600.
If you have the technical information about your monitor you can make this steps.
- Start at default 800x600 - Edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and put this parameters on Monitor section
HorizSync 28.0 - 96.0 <-- Sample Value!!! you must modify this according your hardware VertRefresh 50.0 - 75.0 <-- Sample Value!!! you must modify this according your hardware
- Then save changes and restart X
Now you can choose a very large amount of resolutions... (i hope)
It is uncomfortable but is the only solution I have found
On USB this change is persistent... not on DVD...
Best regards...
